In the Jungle, Some Concrete Poetry by Tanner

In the Jungle, Some Concrete Poetry by Tanner

This is a concrete poem I made based on the Jungle Art by Henri Rousseau. I made my own fonts and used colored pencils for shading and a Sharpie pen for writing. My favorite font I made was the Letter in Letter. See if you can find it in my picture, based on it’s title. Here’s the words, just in case the fonts are too crazy:

From Green Grass to Yellow Leaves, In the Jungle
From Monkey Swing to Choppin’ Trees, In the Jungle
THE END

It’s pretty short, but I love it.

Siddhartha (Buddha)

Buddha Statue by Tanner GriffinI’m reading Siddhartha by Herman Hesse right now, and I’m wondering what’s going to happen when Siddhartha meets Buddha.  So far, he has lived in a palace, but he left because he wanted to see the world, then lived with the Samanas in the forest, where he learned meditation, and how to picture himself being other things in the world, how to lose his Self, but it just wasn’t enough.  So now he’s going to see the Buddha in the next chapter (Chapter 3).  It’s going to be very exciting.  Here’s a picture I drew of Buddha.  I worked very hard on the watercolors and the drawing.  I made mistakes drawing a bunch of times until I got it right.  The tip is to start with the head.  Peace, Love, and Siddhartha, Tanner.  P.S.  Maybe one of you would like the book I’m reading.

Truth, An original song by Tanner Griffin

Truth, An original song by Tanner Griffin

Just because you think it,
Doesn’t mean it’s true
Sometimes you’re right,
Sometimes you’re wrong

But whatever the truth is
Whatever the truth is

Even if you mean it,
Even if you think it,
It ain’t the truth if it ain’t real,
Baby, it ain’t real, it ain’t the truth, oooohhh…oooohhh…oooohhh…

Some things I believe ain’t real.
So, why don’t you come with me
So you can see
What I need you for.

I need everyone in the world
to breathe…
Everyone can breathe I can see
Because it makes carbon dioxide for the trees.

Even if you mean it,
Even if you think it,
It ain’t the truth if it ain’t real,
Baby, it ain’t real, it ain’t the truth, oooohhh…oooohhh…oooohhh…

It’s not the truth if it ain’t real…If it’s not the truth, it ain’t real…If it’s not the truth, If it’s not the truth, If it’s not the truth, it ain’t real…

It’s not the truth,
Even if you mean it.
And it ain’t real,
Even if you think it.

If it’s not the truth, it ain’t real…

(Everything will be fine with the truth. Come on.)

Wisdom from Tanner…

1. I like to be counted on. One time, my family had a car wreck, and daddy was up by the truck getting our phones and things. But a semi was coming. My shoe fell off and dad came to rescue me. Just then, the semi hit the truck, and me losing my shoe saved daddy. The week before, I had been saying my guardian angel prayer a lot. This is the prayer:

Angel sent by God to guide me, be my light and walk beside me, be my guardian and protect me; on the paths of life direct me.

My family thinks my prayers worked and I like that I was counted on to protect my family.

2. Enjoy this time of your life because it’s the only time you’ll have this time. Once I was having fun with my dad. And I was doing something that I usually didn’t do – I was tickling his cheek. And I hoped daddy enjoyed it, because I didn’t do it often, and it was probably the only time I was ever going to do that. Then I was like, “Enjoy this time of your life because it’s the only time you’ll have this time.” And daddy said, “Wow! that’s very wise of you, Tanner.” And, I was like, “Don’t worry. I’m always like that.”

So thanks for listening to my wisdom. Hope you have that kind of wisdom, too. See ya Later. Tanner.

P-O-PP-O-P: He’s some guy you have to see.
P-O-PP-O-P: He’s a magical thief.
If you want to trade a quarter for a penny,
He’s some guy you have to see.

This poem is inspired by my PopPop. He came for a visit a week before the day I wrote this poem. I started to make this a song, but I ran out of words, so I changed it to a poem. PopPop always does magic. But sometimes, he trades a quarter for a penny. He likes to trade so HE gets the most money. We had sooooooo much fun while they were here. We built a coin bank with a REAL hammer and REAL nails. And we built a Wedgit tower TALLER than PopPop! And went on a hike to Alachua Lake, I mean, Payne’s Prairie, where we saw alligators, wild horses, and turtles. And we built the BEST marble run ever! I love PopPop and Grammy.

I’m Not an Octopus with Hands
An original song by Tanner Griffin – Copyright 2012

Verse:
I saw a bunch of girls I loved
I saw one at the pizza place, one at choir
I don’t even know ‘em
I just loved ‘em when I saw ‘em

Pre-Chorus:
I’ve got a lot of them
I’ve got a lot of crushes
But I can’t marry all of them

Chorus:
Because I’m not an octopus with hands
I can’t marry all of them
I’m not an octopus – WITH HANDS

Verse:
Why does every girl I like
At that second I fall in love with her, love me
And I’ve got a bunch of girls that when they see me, like me.
I told them to drop it, until we’re twenty…

Interlude:

Why Why Why Why Why Why Why Why Why Why Why Why…

Bridge:
Because I’m not an octopus with hands
I can’t marry all of them
Why does every girl I like, like me

Chorus:
Because I’m not an octopus with hands
I can’t marry all of you
I’m not an octopus with hands
I’m not an octopus – WITH HANDS!

Outro:
Because I’m not an octopus with hands, I can’t marry all of them… Because I’m not an octopus with hands, I can’t marry all of them…Because I’m not an octopus with hands, I can’t marry all of them…Yeahhhhhhh……

Plato and Ancient Greece and Justice

Plato is a very famous philosopher. He studied justice for the benefit of all of us. Now that I have studied it more, I think I can finish the Justice part of my Peacemaker Club. (See God and Peace post). We all need to be fair to others and that’s what I’m sharing with you. For instance, if you loaned your friend your favorite t-shirt, and you want it back, does your friend say, “No! I want to keep it.” or does your friend give it back? Your friend should give it back if he is just, even if he really wants to keep it. This is a great way to see if your friends understand justice. Anyway, Plato lived in ancient Greece, in Athens. Athens was one of the biggest cities in ancient Greece. Another big one was Sparta. If I was a kid in ancient Greece, I would have liked to live in Athens because I would have liked to VOTE when I grew up, and I don’t really like fighting, which was the main activity of Spartan boys. If someone is brave and silent, even when they are getting hurt, then they are still called a “Spartan” person.

The Best Parts of Life are the Little Things in Life by Tanner

The Best Parts of Life are the Little Things in Life –
An original song by Tanner Griffin Copyright 2012

(clap clap clap, clap clap clap, clap clap, clap clap clap clap)

Verse:
The best parts of life are in nature
Especially the little things.
The sound of the water flowin’
(clap clap, clap clap clap clap)

Chorus:
The sight of the beautiful grass
The smell of the fruit on the trees.
I like little things.

Verse:
And I like the feel of the air…blowin’ around me.
And the taste of the salt, chipped off of a rock from the sea.
(clap clap, clap clap clap clap)

Chorus:
The sight of the tall tall pine.
The smell of all the plants.
I like little things.

Bridge:
Sight, Smell, Taste, Touch, and Sound…
Help you love nature all around.

Chorus:
The sight of everything you can see.
The smell of everything you can smell.
I like little things.

Outro (Fade Out):

I love all of it. I like little things. I like little things. I like little things. I like little things…
